Your Questions About New Car Prices South Africa

Charles asks…

Buying a new car in South Africa?

I am looking to buy a new car and the prices are just outrages. The Chinese are flocking the market with their cars. What do you think about these Chinese versions and do you think they will bring the pricing down in general?

admin answers:

Chief, the problem is with brands……….the chinese products (vehicles) might be cheaper……. But South African public, especially men, are wedded to brands……. We’d rather go for Ford, Toyota, BM, Merc, VW despite that they are more expensive……..I bet your heart lies somewhere in these……your decision will be somewhere there…….

Donna asks…

Can one ship your vehicle to your new residence in a different continent?

We are relocating to South Africa in two years and I need to know if it is worth shipping your vehicle to there because car prices there are over the top and I love my car. Someone said import tax is crazy high!

admin answers:

There are two things you need to do. One is to get a quote from a shipper, the other is to find out from the South African authorities what their rules and charges are relating to the import of a vehicle. Their Embassy or Consulate General should be able to help you.

It’s not impossible, it just depends on what you feel to be too much.

Ruth asks…

Can anyone tell me the price of a new Ford Focus ST in the States?

The same car costs R253 500 in South Africa (that’s about $36200). I want to compare the prices between the USA and South Africa.

Then you will need a currency converter, money changers always take a cut too, so factor that in.
Then you will need to calculate import taxes etc.
Then you’ll need to add the cost of transport.
This will give you total cost.
